A collage of pool toys, floats and games.

We’re coming up on our 3rd summer of having a pool in our backyard and I thought it would be fun to share what I’ve found to be our family’s favorite pool toys! I’m sharing our favorite diving toys, floats, and toys for toddlers!!

Pool toys can vary a lot in their costs, so I have made an effort to share toys and games for all budgets. Another thing to keep in mind with shopping for pool toys is to watch for sales! Pool goggles, toys, swimsuits, etc will ALWAYS go on sale in the Spring!

I also want to add that a lot of these toys have been discovered by friends and neighbors and we learned about them when swimming at their houses.

If you guys love backyard fun, then make sure to check out these fun Backyard Games for Families and Water Bead Activities for Kids! And now, without further ado, here are my family’s favorite pool toys

FAVORITE SWIMMING POOL DIVE TOYS

Once you’ve got a little swimmer on your hands, you’ll probably agree that learning to dive for objects is a favorite game! My 7-year-old is the ultimate little diver and LOVES to see how many rings she can collect at one time! She can even out-dive her two older brothers and mom and dad! We’ve tried a bunch of different driving toys and today I’m sharing with you 4 different styles for you to consider.

A collage of different toys you can dive for in the pool. Left to right -- Rings, Torpedos, Light up circles and diving sticks.

Diving Rings || Torpedos – Small | Large || Lightup Sinking Toys || Diving Sticks

If you’re only going to order one set, I’d order the Diving Rings. They are sturdy, come with 12 of them, and will last for years and years!

For very new beginners, I would say go with the diving sticks. They’re easy to grab and sink a little slower. Plus, kids love watching the water drain out of them.

For just above beginner and for night diving, I would say go with the Lightup Sinking Toys. The seaweed at the top makes them easy to grab and the light makes them easier to see at night!

The Pool Torpedos are fun to play with, even if you only have 1 or 2. You can throw them under the water and they will soar through the water. My kids even love to try and play catch with them.

If you’re looking for a variety of different types of diving toys, then consider getting this Ultimate Diving Toys Set of 45 different diving toys that come in 10 different styles!!

BEST POOL GAMES

A collage of pool activities -- bucketball game, watermelon ball and swim thru hoops.

Bucketball — this game is a family favorite! You can play it in the pool, on the grass or even in the sand!! This is a favorite for my kids 10+!

Watermelon Ball — This ball is unlike any other ball you’ll have for your pool. Most balls bounce right to the top of the water. This ball can be passed and dribbled underwater. This will take your game of keep-away or pool basketball to the next level.

Swim Thur Hoops — Create a fun race course with these hoops and try and swim through them all in one breath!! My daughter and her friends love these!

A collage of fun pool activities -- a pool bball hoop, a pool volleyball game and a mermaid tail.

Basketball — When we have an older group of kids in the pool, the swim never ends without a game of basketball! And the games can get intense! We also love to play ‘HORSE’ and incorporate pool shots, out-of-pool shots, and of course shots going down the slide! These are our favorite water basketballs — we have them in both sizes!

Volleyball — if you have a pool that has enough shallow end, I highly suggest a volleyball net! We’ve played at neighbor’s houses and it’s so fun! And it allows a lot of people to play and have fun all at once!

Mermaid Tails — This isn’t so much a “game”, but the kids LOVE playing Mermaid or Ocean. These tails get used by EVERYBODY. Even my older boys love playing with them! They have them in pink and blue options!

BEST POOL FLOATS

A collage of different pool floats.

Pool Hammock — I love this float for adults to lounge! It has less area that is poppable and also takes less room to store! We’ve tried several and all the others never last more than a month or so!

Donut Tube — There are so many fun floats out there and we’ve got two favorites! The first is a basic circle tube!! We literally have 5 of them blown up at all times and the kids love them! They love to go down the slide and try to land in it. We have this exact tube and it’s great quality and has lasted a full swim season.

Large Circle Float — My kids LOVE it!  Like LOVE LOVE LOVE it! They use it in all sorts of games — pirates, float racing, jumping onto it from the side, etc. But, it is a bit of a pain to store and the wind catches it easily and can blow it away. I usually do one a summer… and when it pops or blows away, then I don’t replace it. They have a ton of different designs — pizza slices, a pug, fruit, cactus, popsicle, giant unicorn, and more!

A collage of different floats and kick boards for the pool.

Foam Pool Noodles — These large foam pool noodles are far preferred vs the cheap ones! Another bonus of them is that they won’t fall apart and leave foam pieces in your pool! You can find these at places like Costco in the Spring for a little better price too! These noodles are used by everyone of all ages! I love to just sit on one when I’m hanging out and chatting with friends in the pool and younger kids like to use them to get around when they’re a little nervous in the deep end still. Every pool needs at least 2 of these!

Kick Board or Swim Skateboard — We have a couple of each of these! They are both really just used as more of a kickboard, but for some reason, the kids tend to go for the swim skateboard more than the regular kickboard. Young kids LOVE these when they’re first learning to swim!

BEST POOL TOYS FOR TODDLERS

Although I no longer have toddlers at home, I have put together a fun collection of toys for my younger nieces and nephews! They love to sit on our large stairs or play in the hot tub area with them!

Two pool toys -- on the left is a green and yellow water plane and on the right is a blue and yellow submarine.

Green Toys has a huge collection of fun water toys for the pool or tub – everything from different boats, submarines, and more. We honestly have about 5 of them, but the Sea Plane and Submarine are favorites!

A collage of a stingray Finding Dory pool toy and mermaid figures.

Finding Dory Mr. Ray’s Dive and Catch Game | Mermaid Figures

Both of these sets have been hits. The Find Dory figures get played with alone, just as much as they do with the net. And the mermaid collection has gotten so much use from my daughter and her little friends, that we are thinking of ordering an additional set.

Collage of a pool shark catch game and 5 fleet ships that float.

Melissa and Doug Shark Fish Hunt | Boon Fleet Stacking Boats

Both of these toys are a great fit for younger toddlers!

A collage of pool toys. On the left is a boy playing with a magnetic fishing game and on the right are 5 buckets themed like animals.

Fishing Pole and Magnetic Fish | Stack and Pour Buckets

The fishing toy has been a hit!! And what kid doesn’t love empty cups?? It’s hilarious how much use they get even with my older kiddos!

I hope you found some fun ideas for Pool toys for your family to enjoy this season! If you have any other favorites, please leave them in the comments for me to check out and add to this fun collection!
